Healing Stages
Day 1 (Fresh Tattoo)
Your tattoo is essentially an open wound; expect redness, swelling, and a thin layer of plasma as the skin begins its immediate repair.
Days 2-3
The redness starts to calm, but the tattoo may feel tender and warm. A light scab or tightness begins to form as the skin seals.
Days 4-6
The top layer of skin begins to flake lightly. Colors may look dull or cloudy—this is completely normal during this stage.
Days 7-10
More noticeable peeling happens, similar to a sunburn. It may itch, but avoid scratching or picking to protect the artwork.
Days 11-14
Most visible peeling is done. The skin feels dry or slightly shiny, and the tattoo starts looking clearer as the outer layer repairs.
Weeks 2-4 +
Beneath the surface, layers of skin continue to rebuild. The tattoo sharpens, brightens, and settles into its final look.
